Where Aura Reality fits

Aura Reality is the newest — and on paper the most technically ambitious — facial imaging system a med spa can buy. Built by Hexagon, the Swiss precision-measurement group, it captures a ~575-megapixel 3D "digital twin" of the face with 0.1mm accuracy in a 0.2-second scan, using a rig of 13 cameras and 18 LEDs. The hardware won an iF Design Award in 2025 and looks the part in a high-end clinic.

It is positioned as a consultation and conversion tool as much as a documentation system: on top of wrinkle, pore, redness, spot and texture analysis, the software renders up to three treatment simulations per scan, letting a prospective client see a plausible version of their own outcome before committing.

What stands out

• Capture quality. The resolution and geometric accuracy are simply beyond anything else reviewed in this category. A 0.2-second capture also means no motion-blur retakes and a frictionless client experience.
• Treatment simulation. Showing a client their own face with a simulated outcome is a materially stronger consult tool than annotated photos. Three scenarios per scan covers the typical "conservative / recommended / comprehensive" treatment-plan conversation.
• Engineering pedigree. Hexagon builds metrology equipment for aerospace and manufacturing; that heritage lends real credibility to the accuracy claims.

Where it falls short

• It is very new. Aura Reality has a limited US track record in aesthetics. Install base, real-world reliability data, software update cadence and the depth of its US service network are all still largely unproven, and our Support & onboarding score is tempered accordingly. Early adopters should negotiate service-level commitments in writing.
• Pricing opacity. Everything is quote-based with no published figures, and the Swiss-premium positioning suggests this will sit at the expensive end of the category. Budget for the full picture: hardware, software terms and any per-scan or simulation limits.
• Simulation ceiling. Three simulations per scan is enough for most consults but is a hard cap to be aware of if your consult style explores many options.
• Unproven aesthetics workflow depth. The capture technology is world-class, but med-spa-specific workflow niceties — treatment-plan mapping, upsell prompts, EMR-adjacent conveniences — are less mature than at vendors that have served this market for decades.

Who should choose it

Choose Aura Reality if you run a premium, consult-driven practice where a wow-factor imaging experience and on-screen outcome simulation will visibly lift conversion, and you are comfortable being an early adopter. The technology scores at the top of this category; the vendor's US support story does not yet. Risk-averse buyers, or practices in regions far from major metros, should either wait for the US install base to mature or benchmark it head-to-head against long-established vendors like Emage Medical before signing.
