About

Beauty & Bodywork Insurance (BBI) is a direct-to-consumer insurance program covering beauty and bodywork professionals — estheticians, massage therapists, cosmetologists, lash artists and dozens of related trades. Its signature product is an instant-issue online policy: quote, pay and download a certificate of insurance in minutes, with esthetician coverage starting at $9.99 per month (about $96 per year).

The base policy combines general and professional liability at $2M per occurrence with a $3M aggregate, plus a $3M products and completed-operations aggregate, and additional insureds can be added. Policies are underwritten by Accelerant. BBI is an agency/program (not a carrier itself). Alongside the individual-professional product, BBI maintains a dedicated medical-spa page offering quoted coverage for medspa businesses — professional and general liability, business owner's policies and workers' comp — though that side of the house is a guided quote process rather than instant issue, and individual providers are excluded from the medspa product.

Ideal customer

Solo estheticians, bodywork practitioners and beauty professionals who want the cheapest credible instant-issue liability policy — plus med spa owners willing to go through a guided quote for entity coverage rather than an instant online bind.

Our Beauty & Bodywork Insurance (BBI) review

Why Beauty & Bodywork Insurance

Beauty & Bodywork Insurance (BBI) has built its business on a simple promise: real liability coverage, bought entirely online, at a price that barely registers as a business expense. For estheticians, the published rate is $9.99 a month or $96 a year — and unlike some bargain programs, the limits are legitimate: $2M per occurrence and a $3M aggregate for combined general and professional liability, a separate $3M products and completed-operations aggregate, and a $5,000 per-person medical expense limit. Checkout is genuinely instant: you pay, and the digital certificate of insurance and user dashboard are available immediately. Policies are underwritten by Accelerant; BBI itself is a program/agency rather than a carrier.

What stands out

Two things. First, the price-to-limits ratio for individual professionals is about as good as this category gets, and pricing is fully public — no quoting, no broker calls. Additional insureds can be added, which is exactly what a host spa or landlord will ask for. Second, and unusually for a beauty-professional program, BBI maintains a dedicated medical-spa insurance track for spa businesses offering medically supervised services — injectables, lasers, chemical peels, IV therapy and microneedling — spanning professional liability, general liability, business owner's policies and workers' comp, with optional cyber and equipment add-ons.

Watch-outs

The two products should not be confused. The famous $9.99/month policy is for individual beauty and bodywork professionals doing esthetics-scope work; it does not cover medical or injectable services. The medical-spa product, meanwhile, is not instant issue — you complete an application and a licensed BBI agent reviews your services before presenting options — and it carries no published pricing or limits, so the celebrated transparency evaporates precisely where a med spa owner needs it. BBI's own medspa page also states that individual providers are excluded from that product, so injectors need their own malpractice coverage elsewhere. Finally, BBI has a thin independent review footprint: we found no verifiable third-party rating aggregate for the brand, so service quality at claim time is harder to assess than with more heavily reviewed rivals.

Who it's for

For solo estheticians, lash artists, massage therapists and other beauty or bodywork professionals — including those renting space in or contracting with a med spa — BBI is a top-tier value pick: named carrier, real limits, honest pricing and a five-minute purchase. For med spa owners, it is a reasonable door to knock on for entity coverage, but treat it as one quote among several from med-spa-specialist brokers, and pressure-test the proposed limits, exclusions and claims handling before you bind. The instant-issue magic applies to the beauty side of the house, not the medical side — and for injectable malpractice specifically, your providers will still need dedicated individual coverage from a medical malpractice specialist.

Strengths & limitations

Strengths

  • One of the lowest published prices in beauty liability with real $2M/$3M limits
  • Genuinely instant issue — dashboard and COI available at checkout
  • Has an actual medical-spa business product, unlike most beauty-pro programs
  • Underwritten by a named carrier (Accelerant)

Potential limitations

  • Med-spa entity coverage is quote-only with no published pricing — the transparency applies to the individual product, not the medspa one
  • Individual providers are excluded from the medspa product, and injectable/medical services are not covered under the cheap instant-issue policy
  • Thin public information on the medspa program's limits and carrier terms; no verifiable third-party review aggregate for BBI itself
