Our verdict

Mailchimp is an easy, affordable email-marketing and light-automation tool — useful for nurturing existing clients, but it is a marketing layer, not a med-spa CRM with a real lead pipeline or consult booking.

About

Mailchimp, owned by Intuit, is one of the most recognizable email-marketing platforms in the world. It combines campaign email, marketing automations, landing pages, and a basic audience/CRM layer that lets small businesses tag, segment, and re-engage contacts. For a med spa, it is most useful as a marketing-communications tool: sending newsletters, promotions, seasonal offers, and automated nurture or win-back sequences to an existing client list.

It is important to be clear about what Mailchimp is not. It is a marketing-automation layer, not a med-spa CRM. There is no native consult-booking workflow, no lead-pipeline or sales-stage tracking built for aesthetics, and no clinical or treatment context. Med spas typically run Mailchimp alongside a practice-management system or dedicated CRM, using it purely for email outreach. Note also that Mailchimp removed marketing automations from its free plan around 2025, so any serious nurture work requires a paid tier.

Ideal customer

Small med spas that want an easy, affordable email-marketing and light-automation tool for newsletters, promotions, and client reactivation — and that already have a separate booking or CRM system for their actual lead pipeline.

Our Mailchimp review

Where Mailchimp fits

Mailchimp is one of the best-known email-marketing platforms on the planet, and plenty of small med spas already use it. It is best understood as a marketing-communications layer: a place to send newsletters, run promotions, and build automated nurture or reactivation sequences to clients you already have. If your goal is to keep your name in front of past patients with seasonal offers or a monthly update, Mailchimp does that well and is easy to pick up.

What it is not is a med-spa CRM. There is no consult-booking workflow, no aesthetics-specific lead pipeline, and no clinical or treatment context. Mailchimp tracks an audience of email contacts with tags and segments, not prospects moving through sales stages toward a booked appointment. Med spas almost always run it alongside a practice-management system or a dedicated CRM, using Mailchimp purely for outbound email.

What stands out

  • Ease of use. The drag-and-drop builder, templates, and Customer Journey automations are approachable for non-technical staff. This is one of the lowest-friction tools in the category.
  • Value at small scale. A free tier and an Essentials plan around $13/month make it cheap to start, and the Capterra rating of 4.5 reflects broad satisfaction.
  • Integrations. A massive ecosystem (Shopify, QuickBooks, WordPress, Zapier, and more) means it usually connects to whatever else you run.

Where it falls short

  • No real lead pipeline. If you want to track inquiries, qualify leads, and manage consult bookings, Mailchimp does not do that. Its CRM features are audience management, not sales pipeline.
  • Not aesthetics-specific. There are no med-spa templates, treatment fields, or clinical workflows out of the box.
  • Free-plan downgrade. Mailchimp pulled marketing automations from its free plan around 2025, so meaningful nurture work now requires a paid tier.
  • Scaling cost. Pricing rises with contact count, so a growing client list gets more expensive over time.

Who should choose it

Choose Mailchimp if you want a simple, affordable email and light-automation tool to nurture and reactivate existing clients, and you already have — or plan to add — a separate system for booking and lead management. It is a sensible choice for a solo provider or a single-location spa that mainly needs a polished newsletter and a few automated touchpoints, especially if your team has no marketing specialist and wants something that just works. Before committing, map out how contacts will flow from your booking or practice-management system into Mailchimp, since there is no built-in link to clinical or appointment data and you will likely rely on an integration or a manual export. Also price out the tier you actually need: the free plan no longer includes automations, so the realistic starting point for a working nurture program is Essentials or Standard, and that cost grows as your list does. Do not expect Mailchimp to function as your med-spa CRM; treat it as the email layer that sits on top of one, and keep your lead pipeline, consult bookings, and treatment records in a purpose-built system.
