Why PPIB
Most med spas discover, usually at renewal time, that a generic business-owner's policy quietly excludes the very things they do all day: injectables, IV drips, energy devices. Professional Program Insurance Brokerage (PPIB) exists precisely for that gap. Founded in 1993 to build insurance programs for industries that didn't have them, PPIB runs one of the longest-standing dedicated MediSpa programs in the country, and since 2018 it has operated as a division of Specialty Program Group, part of HUB International.
Be clear about what you're buying: PPIB is a specialty brokerage and program administrator, not a risk-bearing carrier. It designs the program, underwrites the application and places the risk with insurance carriers it does not publicly name. That's normal for this category, but it means you should ask your PPIB contact which carrier sits behind your policy — and what that carrier's AM Best rating is — before you bind.
What stands out
The coverage breadth is the headline. The MediSpa program combines professional liability and general liability for the entity and the owners, employees and independent contractors working under the business name, with limits up to $2M/$3M. Around that core sit add-ons most competitors simply don't offer in one place: property (including equipment in transit), products liability that extends to private-label lines, cyber protection, HIPAA defense, sexual abuse/molestation coverage, medical director coverage, license action protection and excess liability.
Procedure appetite is equally wide. Botox and dermal fillers, IV therapy, laser and IPL, cryotherapy, weight-loss prescriptions, PDO threads, microneedling and sclerotherapy all sit inside the program — a genuine advantage for spas layering wellness and weight-loss services onto a traditional aesthetics menu, where mainstream markets get skittish.
Watch-outs
Pricing transparency is the weak spot. There is no published pricing and no indicative "from" figure; everything is custom-quoted, and the standard turnaround is 5–8 business days (expedited handling is available on request). If you're opening in three weeks and haven't started, start now. The quoting experience is a traditional application-and-underwriter process rather than the instant-quote portals some rivals now offer.
Two other honesty notes: PPIB does not disclose its underlying carriers publicly, so carrier financial strength has to be confirmed during quoting, and there are no verifiable third-party customer ratings — the firm's reputation rests on longevity and specialisation rather than review volume.
Who it's for
PPIB is the strongest fit for med spas whose service menu makes generalist brokers nervous: high-volume injectables, IV lounges, laser suites, weight-loss programmes, or spas selling private-label product. It also suits owners who want the entity, the medical director and every practitioner under one coordinated program instead of a patchwork of individual policies. Price-shoppers who want an instant online number, or very simple single-service studios, may find leaner routes elsewhere — but for comprehensive, med-spa-native coverage, PPIB remains one of the benchmark programs in the category, and our joint category leader alongside CM&F.
